SpaceX launches Jason-3 ocean-monitoring satellite

VANDENBERG AFB >> After successfully delivering a U.S.-European ocean-monitoring satellite into orbit, a Space X rocket made a hard landing on a floating barge in the roiling Pacific, breaking a support leg and toppling over Sunday. SpaceX announcers said the first stage of the Falcon 9 was not upright after reaching the 300-by-170 foot landing pad in choppy seas about 200 miles west of San Diego. David Bowie Dies at 69; Star Transcended Music, Art and Fashion

David Bowie, the infinitely changeable, fiercely forward-looking songwriter who taught generations of musicians about the power of drama, images and personas, died on Sunday Jan. 10, 2016, two days after his 69th birthday. His death was confirmed by his publicist, Steve Martin, on Monday morning. Bowie, the other-worldly musician who broke pop and rock boundaries with his creative musicianship, nonconformity, striking visuals and a genre-bending persona he christened Ziggy Stardust, died of cancer. Aftermath of the attack by terrorists after both World Trade Center towers had collapsed

These are pictures of what is left of the World Trade Center and surrounding area in the days that followed the September 11 attack. Subsequent investigation revealed a plethora of problems with the surrounding water infiltrating the ground and resulted in many months and years of work to stabilize the ground and remove the debris. The devastation is clearly evident. ©MMI, CBS Worldwide Inc. 9/11 Terrorists Attacks

On September 11, 2001, terrorists from al-Qaeda flew hijacked commercial airliners into Towers One and Two of the World Trade Center on New York’s Manhattan Island and the Pentagon in Virginia. Another plane was on its way to some important target when passengers, after learning of the previous disasters by cell phone while onboard, overpowered the hijackers but the plane crashed in Pennsylvania killing all on board.
